Born in Israel and living in Italy, Inbal Hoffman is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist based in Milan who sees her artistic practice as a direct extension of her political activism and as an act of resistance. Her work combines poetic, emotionally charged biographical imagery with a critical examination of power structures.

Working across installation, sculpture, and, in recent years, miniature ceramic objects, Hoffman explores dynamics of power through shifts in scale, combining an architectural approach with drawing and text.

Working primarily with white glazed clay, she creates meticulously crafted environments that draw the viewer closer while raising questions about human condition, what at first appears seductive and playful gradually reveals itself as an unsettling reality.

For Hoffman, working with clay is about preserving memory. Through firing, clay becomes fossil-like, transforming events into permanence—evidence of what took place. In an age of “post-truth,” where there is no longer a shared truth and narratives are shaped by money, power, and technology, her choice of material becomes a political act.

Hoffman applies the fine-line techniques she learned during two years as a tattoo artist to her ceramic practice. Working with a hairline applicator of her own design, she covers ceramic surfaces with obsessive lines, shading, illustrations, text, and symbols, drawn directly onto curved forms as if with a pen on paper. The high-contrast black-and-white palette reflects her need for clarity and directness. She shares her techniques and working process on her popular Instagram page, with the aim of making her knowledge freely available to others.

Hoffman’s work is part of the Israel Museum collection, where she has also presented a solo exhibition. Her work has been shown in a solo exhibition at the Petah Tikva Museum of Art, as well as in group exhibitions at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art and the Biennale for Craft and Design at MUZA, Eretz Israel Museum. She is currently developing a new project confronting the death of truth, set to premiere in Europe.
